Final preparations are underway for cricket season at The Gabba as the grounds team sets the stage for the action-packed 2025/26 schedule.
Fans from locally and internationally will descend upon the iconic ground to see the world-class wicket in action in a range of domestic and international contests including The Ashes, T20 international, the Sheffield Shield and the Big Bash League.
The Gabba grounds team began extensive renovations on the field began the day after the final AFL game in September, and have rolled their first pitch in preparation for the huge summer of cricket.
The Gabba Grounds Manager David Sandurski is also conducting live tests on turf varieties as well as stitching sections of the field to understand how the technology works in The Gabba environment, which involves inserting thousands of strands of synthetic fibre to enhance the stability and longevity of the field of play.
The rest of The Gabba team has also been busy in between seasons changing the venue over, completing maintenance and capital works, managing member renewals, and also working with Cricket Australia and Queensland Cricket to plan and deliver the season including training and matches.
The fixtures begin with the Sheffield Shield, featuring several Test players either looking for a last hitout ahead of The Ashes, or looking to prove themselves worthy of a spot.
