Test Cricket in Queensland has once again proved to be a winner as The Ashes left fans from both near and far enraptured with the game at the Gabba.
Sold out crowds turned out each day to witness the enthralling battle between Australia and England, with the 137,152 total attendance highest attended 4-day Test at The Gabba, and the second highest Test attendance in Gabba history.
The Gabba shone under lights as the Pink ball Test proved a hit, with plenty of runs scored and wickets taken to ensure the match was set for a thrilling conclusion.
The four days ended in a win for Australia, continuing their winning streak at The Gabba all the way back to 1986.
The Gabba Venue General Manager Mark Zundans said the Test was a huge success proving how well Queensland does Test cricket.
“We know The Gabba is a fortress for the Australian Cricket Team, and it was great to see four thrilling days of cricket end in a win for the Aussies,” Mr Zundans said.
“Not only was the Test a win for Australia, but also for the fans who took full advantage of the perfect Brisbane weather and unbeatable atmosphere that is synonymous with Test cricket at The Gabba.”
Crowds were well-behaved with good natured banter between both supporter groups adding to the atmosphere.
Grounds manager David Sandurski puts the wicket’s success down to its consistency.
“We make wickets here all year round so we’re used to the weather and the different conditions,” Mr Sandurski said.
“We try to be consistent here so when you come to The Gabba you know what you’re going to get.”
