The Queensland Government has announced its plans for Brisbane 2032 venues, following a 100-day review, including the construction of a new stadium at Victoria Park, set to replace The Gabba.

The Gabba will remain in use until 2032, to support cricket and AFL during construction of the Victoria Park stadium.

After this point The Gabba will be decommissioned and transformed into an entertainment and housing precinct.

Until then, The Gabba remains focussed on delivering great experiences, alongside our valued partners and will continue to host the Brisbane Lions, Cricket Australia, Brisbane Heat and Qld Bulls events.

Background

The Queensland Government directed Games Independent Infrastructure and Coordination Authority (GIICA) to conduct a 100-day review of planning, competition venues, transport and infrastructure needs including athlete villages for the Brisbane 2032 Games, and deliver its findings and recommendations in March 2025.

The Review received submissions from 5,862 individuals and organisations and conducted more than 150 stakeholder meetings, taking advice from architects, civil engineers, quantity surveyors, Traditional Custodians and experts in infrastructure, finance, transport. It engaged with subject-matter experts, analysed thousands of pages of technical inputs and leveraged a significant body of work already undertaken, including already-completed project plans, cost assessments, business cases and Project Validation Reports, to grant the fullest picture possible on which to base findings and recommendations.

The Review made 86 recommendations, with Cabinet approving the delivery plan on 24 March 2025, accepting just over 90% of GIICA’s recommendations.
